Hi Dana - thanks for mentioning the Gallatin LA show. It'll be at 10 pm on June 29 at the Asylum Lab. All audience members will get a drink ticket to use at Fringe just down the block. The program on the 29th includes my short comedy, Processing in the Park, starring Adam Burch and Sarah McElligott, a solo dance by Jordan Drankoski and a mix of short films.

This is another example of how Hollywood ruins something brilliant. This wasn't really ever meant to be a movie- it's a remarkable book told in the manner of Studs Terkel which diagrams the precise way in which our world is destined to fragment apart. Sadly, the movie will popularize it as an idiotic action vehicle and second rate zombie flick. Could have been an excellent television program- perhaps even a mock-Ken Burns style documentary series, but, instead, it's just crap. Sad, sad, sad.

Micheal Cera definitely stole the show. Drinking the Capri-Sun in the bathroom while two girls service him, comedy genius. The director said on Maron's podcast that Cera only agreed to do the movie if he could wear that windbreaker in every scene.

Should read the book and not assume that it has something the movie doesn't. There is no real through-line in the book either, other than a very weak one about the "author" being tasked to document the war in it's aftermath by the government. It uses a series of short stories told by different characters to give a very compelling picture of the strengths and weaknesses of human nature. I figured this would be a major weakness in translating the book into a movie, maybe that's why it took 7 years. Haven't seen the movie yet, but it sounds like it remained pretty faithful to the book, for better or worse. But how are you going to top 28 Days Later anyway?

I'm not much for ratings since they're by nature arbitrary (I suppose opinions are too) but I realize people like the grading system or direction thumb system. I created the Batman Scale to be itself arguable, may I should start using it in the written reviews too.
